The day
A day at Bramble
Mornings are long on purpose, so a project can last as long as the children's interest does.
- 8:00
Step 1: Arrival
A teacher greets each child at the door in the language the family prefers. Children hang their coats and look at the panel.
- 8:30
Step 2: Story and circle
A story read once in Spanish and once in English, then a question to take to the rooms and the studio.
- 9:00
Step 3: Projects in the room and the studio
Children move between the room and the studio in twos and threes. A teacher writes down what children say and try.
- 10:30
Step 4: Snack and outdoors
Children serve themselves at a low table, then go to the yard, in coats and boots when it is cold.
- 12:30
Step 5: Lunch and rest
School-day children eat lunch from home together. The twos rest, and older children look at books or draw.
- 3:30
Step 6: Afternoon and pickup
Children return to the project, then a teacher walks them to the door and tells families what the room found out.
Arrival
A door that families come through
Parents, grandparents and neighbors bring children in, and the first minute is a conversation: how the morning went, what a child wants to show. Teachers keep it short in the doorway and long on the panel.
