Sample programs.

The rooms

Three rooms, and what a child does in each

  1. Twos room

    Age 2
    Skills
    • Pours, scoops and carries small things from one place to another

    • Names what it sees in Spanish and in English, with a teacher beside it

    • Presses, pats and rolls clay, and leaves marks with a brush

    • Sings and listens to a short story in a small circle

    Moving up

When a child asks to stay with a project for a whole morning, the teacher and family talk about the Threes room.

  2. Threes room

    Age 3
    Skills
    • Chooses materials in the studio and explains what it is making

    • Asks a question that starts a project, and watches it written on the panel

    • Works beside a friend on the same sheet of paper

    • Hears a story in one language and retells it in the other

    Moving up

The teacher shows families the child's panels before the move, so the Fours room starts where the Threes left off.

  3. Fours room

    Ages 4 to 5
    Skills
    • Follows one question for weeks, and draws or builds what it finds

    • Dictates a few words for the panel and checks that the teacher wrote them down

    • Plans a small project with two or three friends

    • Helps younger children in the studio with a task it has done before

    Moving up

When a child leaves for kindergarten, the teacher writes a short note for the new school and shares it with the family first.
